Cow Ant (Wasp) Photos

Any of the photos may be used for educational purposes (as in fair use / copyright).

These photos were made of a cow ant (Dasymutilla occidentalis) in captivity, and this blog solely dedicated to this beautiful "ant".. wasp.

We captured this Red Velvet "ant" (female wasp) in a plastic container, and after some extensive attempts to get out, it gave up. It bent its little antennae, and looked almost as if it had became sick and lost will to live. I removed the lid to photograph, and to my surprise the wasp revived quite nicely. Needless to say I did not waste time getting the lid back on the container.
